Hello, reader, and welcome to Ease into Vegan. I’m so glad to see you!
I’m Sarah, the girl behind the recipes you’re reading on this blog. And on this page, I’m going to tell you a story.
But before I get into my story, I want you to know that I’m not in any way giving health or medical advice, and I recommend for you to speak to your physician about your health. I am also not advocating for veganism as a weight-loss regimen.
My vegan journey
Rewind to 2014. I was overweight, and tired of having such an unhealthy relationship with food. I felt like life was passing me by as I was held prisoner in a body I hated. Most of what I put inside my body during the week was healthier than you may think.
The weekends were another story entirely.
Any chance I got, I ate out. Chicken parmigiana, hamburgers and french fries, milkshakes, chocolate dessert, steak bento boxes, and anything else that was loaded with saturated fats. I was addicted, my taste buds firmly in control of my decisions.
On my 18th birthday, I did a cold turkey 180-degree shift: I decided to stop eating meat for a few months. Dairy technically shouldn’t have been in my diet anyway, since I’m allergic. So, I figured I’d cut that out fully, too.
When those few months were over, I didn’t crave the foods I used to enjoy that were slowly killing me. I loved finding local vegan restaurants and experiencing a new culture within my own hometown. I’ve been vegan for almost seven years as I write this in late 2020, and the only regret I have is not going vegan sooner.
Did I achieve the unrealistic supermodel body I wanted in high school? Not quite. But I am much more energetic, I run for fun (!), and I don’t constantly crave junk. To top it all off, I lost 60 pounds along the way — and gained a life I didn’t dream possible.
My blogging journey
Shortly after going vegan, I started my first blog. It was about being a college girl, and I rarely updated it. But, after a couple of re-vamps, I ended up with my first blog lovechild: Sarah L. Travels. Check it out here if you’re ever looking for travel inspiration and guides with actionable steps to get you on your dream trip! When I first started traveling internationally in college, I didn’t know what I didn’t know — and it cost me in money and time. Sarah L. Travels is full of those travel pro tips I wish I had years ago!
I started Sarah L. Travels as more of a lifestyle blog, and I did share recipes there once upon a time. Now, I’m moving all my recipe and food-related writing to its new home on Ease into Vegan!
I created Ease into Vegan to share some of my favorite recipes with the World Wide Web. After years of learning to work with gluten-free flours and a plant-based grocery list, I’ve learned a thing or two about preparing delicious, unique dishes without the most commonly-used inputs.
